EuropElectro: Presenting the interests of the European electrical and electronics industry in China under the leadership of the ZVEI

Since February 2007, the European electrical and electronics industry has been represented in China with an office in Beijing under the leadership of the ZVEI and the name "EuropElectro". The German Chamber of Commerce (GIC/Aussenhandelskammer, AHK) in Beijing and Orgalime (The European Engineering Industries Association representing the interests of the Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Metalworking & Metal Articles Industries) have been recruited as partners to the project. With this move, a lobbying platform has been established for the European electrical and electronics industry for the creation of a network. At the same time, the companies are provided with exclusive information relating to technical legislation, standardization and certification in China. In addition, the office will provide assistance on interpretation and issues, particularly with regard to the topics of "China RoHS" and CCC certification. Information is to be provided on the organization and structure of standardization in China. Timely awareness of Chinese initiatives concerning new standards projects is of great importance, as are comparisons between Chinese and international standards.

The EuropElectro office is maintained in an "office-in-an-office" arrangement in Beijing under the auspices of the German Chamber of Commerce. The office is managed by Ms Wang Xu. Ms Wang successfully held a similar position over the past six years for the Chinese branch of a ZVEI member company. Through her previous job, Ms Wang has access to an extensive network of close contacts within the Chinese ministries and certification and standards organizations. The official opening of the office is planned for the end of June 2007, with high-ranking Chinese and foreign guests in attendance.
